Name: John Braymer, Ph.D.

Job title: President and CEO of the Virginia Center for Architecture, which opened on April 1, 2005. Housed in a city and state historic landmark and designed by John Russell Pope, the Center is located at 2501 Monument Avenue and operates as a museum of architecture with educational programs for youth and adults.

Family: He is married to Dr. Meta R. Braymer, Vice President of Graduate and Professional Studies at University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, and they are the parents of a daughter, Meredith.

More background: Braymer also serves as Executive Vice President/CEO of the Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects, a position he has held since 1986. He belongs to numerous professional organizations, and in Richmond he has served as an officer of Comfort Zone Camp, a bereavement camp for children; and he currently serves as Chair of the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood, as a director of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, as Treasurer of the Center for Palladian Studies in America; and was a director on the Virginia Board of Historic Resources. Before his work with the VSAIA and the Virginia Foundation for Architecture, Dr. Braymer served as a Senior Legislative Analyst with Virginia's General Assembly and was Assistant Professor of English at the University of Richmond.
