NORFOLK -- Norfolk got six runs in the first inning off Braves pitcher Damian Moss yesterday, and Richmond never could catch up, losing 8-4 to the Tides.
It was Richmond's fifth consecutive loss and the Braves' 12th in their past 14 games. Moss (3-8) lasted only 11/3 innings. He gave up seven hits and eight runs, only two of them earned.
The Tides scored in the first on a two-run home run by Oscar Salazar, a run-scoring single by Omir Santos and a three-run home run by Jeff Fiorentino. In the Tides' second inning, Moss made an errant pickoff throw, which brought in two runs.
The Braves got a run in the second inning on an Enrique Cruz single and in the third on a Scott Thorman home run, his 15th. Diory Hernandez finished the Braves' scoring in the seventh with a two-run single to center field.
Notes: Braves first baseman and designated hitter Barbaro Canizares has been named to the International League team for the Triple-A All Star Game on July 16. He is 10th in the league in batting average (.310). . . . Right-handed pitcher Brian Lawrence faces Tides lefty Craig Anderson tonight.
