VSGA JUNIOR MATCH PLAY

CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Evan Beck of Virginia Beach shot a 5-under-par 67 to earn medalist honors as stroke play qualifying ended yesterday at the 18th Virginia State Golf Association Junior Match Play Championship.

Beck earned the top seed in the remaining 16-player field after qualifying at 7-under-par 137.

Defending champion Michael Moyers of Stanardsville had a Second-round 72 to finish at 140 and earn the second seed.

Daniel Walker (Earlysville) shot a 144 and Adam Ball (Richmond) and Michael Wade (Floyd) rounded out the top five.

At the end of yesterday's qualifying, Patrick Leisure of Charlottesville and Roanoke's Jack Wilkes earned the final two spots in the round.

The top 16 players advanced to the opening round of match play today.
