WOOD'S WINNERS

Third race -- The $50,000 Zeke Ferguson Memorial Steeplechase Stakes takes center stage this afternoon with a splendid field of 12 jumpers. No. 8 Duke of Earl has been rock solid since getting roughed up in a Grade I stakes back in April. A pair of wins and a runner-up in his most recent three starts will make him the betting choice. No. 3 Dr. Bloomer is fresh off a Grade III stakes triumph and has been racing against tough company for the past year. No. 6 Class Shadow has been on a roll. In only four life starts, the four year old has yet to finish "out of the money". No. 8 to win today's 2¼ mile feature.

Seventh race -- No. 7 Hitthesnooze is running in cheap company compared to where he raced the last couple years. A return to the sprint distance and a second start on the grass could pay nice dividends, especially at 5-1. No. 5 Por Supesto takes the biggest class drop of any horse in this race. Couple that with the gelding's past success here and you have a very game runner. No. 2 Melmont is coming off a tight victory and now moves from dirt to grass. With the Allen-Karamanos connection still firing, this could be a wide open event. When the alarm goes off, get out of bed. No. 7 in an upset.

Ninth race -- No. 5 Prince Noir gave a nice effort last start after the race was taken off the turf. The weather looks good today so the turf course awaits, and with a key jockey change, this is a horse to watch. No. 4 Royal Bayou is slowly getting better in his young career and with a transition to grass in today's finale, he may take a nice step forward. No. 6 Night Passage returns to the sprint distance after a pair of milers, and jockey Malcolm Franklin has hit full stride this meet. No. 5 to win.
