BOSTON - The Red Sox placed shortstop Julio Lugo on the 15-day disabled list with a left quad strain yesterday. Lugo was injured Friday night while running out an infield single in the ninth inning of Boston's 7-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles . . . David Ortiz, on the disabled list since May 31 with a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist, is expected to return to Boston's lineup on July 25 for the opener of a series against the New York Yankees.
CHICAGO - Closer Bobby Jenks got through a bullpen session yesterday without any problems and should be ready to pitch after the all-star break. "I got good news from our pitching coach. He's ready to go," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Hopefully when we come out of the break, he'll be ready to come off the DL when he's scheduled." . . . Guillen said he has no interest in signing career home run king Barry Bonds even if his team had an opening for a designated hitter or left fielder.
CLEVELAND - Indians RHP Fausto Carmona, out since May 24 with a strained left hip, is scheduled to start a rehab assignment tomorrow at Class A Lake County.

TORONTO - RHP Jesse Litsch (8-6), who began the season 7-1, has won just once in his past eight outings. Yesterday against New York he gave up eight runs - three earned - and seven hits in 22/3 innings.
