RUNNER OF THE YEAR -- The leader of Midlothian's powerhouse girls team, Kathleen Lautzenheiser finished second in the Dominion District meet to last year's runner of the year Kristen Wolfe, then won the Central Region race, running an 18:21. Wolfe received the same time, but Lautzenheiser was declared the victor. She became the first Midlothian girls runner to win the Group AAA meet at Great Meadow the next week with a time of 17:56.41, two seconds better than the runner-up. The Trojans won the team title in the district, region and state and placed six runners on the All-Metro team. After the high school season ended, Lautzenheiser qualified for the Foot Locker National race in San Diego.
