Players of the year

Brittany Hallberg, Collegiate - Shutting out the Cougars' high-scoring forward nearly was impossible no matter the quality of the opponent. Hallberg scored 32 goals and delivered 14 assists in helping Collegiate to a 19-3-1 record and a runner-up finish in the state tournament. "She was twice the threat this year than she was in past years. She became a finisher rather than a shooter," coach Bill Rider said. Hallberg finished her career with a state record 104 goals and surpassed her sister, Heather, in the process. Hallberg started with one goal in the seventh grade and scored 93 in her high school years. She has been an All-Metro pick all four years (three times first team). She also was named to the all-League of Independent Schools and all-VISAA teams this season.

Lindsey Rowe, Mills Godwin - Shutting out opponents was the norm for the Eagles' goalkeeper. Rowe shut out 11 opponents as Mills Godwin went 16-3-1 this season and advanced to the semifinals of the state Group AAA tournament. She gave up 19 goals in the 19 games in which she played and never gave up more than two in a game. She didn't allow a public school to score against her during the regular season. In the state quarterfinal victory over First Colonial, she took and made the Eagles' first penalty kick. She did give up two goals to co-player of the year Hallberg in two meetings (the teams split). Rowe repeats as a first-team All-Metro choice. She was this year's Colonial District and Central Region player of the year.
