Abdi Abdirahman isn't picky. Put him in a distance race, and he's a happy man. "I like the half-marathon and 10K. I like the marathon, too," Abdirahman said when asked which distance is his favorite. He paused. "I don't know," Abdirahman continued after a moment. "I like everything."

Leah Kiprono is returning Tuesday to her native Kenya to relieve her husband, Joseph Mutinda, who's been taking care of their two sons. Mutinda will then fly to the United States to run in a marathon. Kiprono won't go home to Eldoret empty-handed. She collected a gold medal and $2,000 in prize money yesterday for winning the women's race in the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K.

They came in minivans and sedans. Some arrived pushing strollers before they pushed themselves toward the finish line. They came to the starting line in wave after wave, 17 waves in all, a vast sea of running and walking humanity. Many came wearing yellow Massey Cancer Center shirts that read, "I helped put cancer on the run." They came, they ran, they gave.

I did it!" Billy Weldon exclaimed. "It went well. I did it." Weldon, a Henrico County substitute teacher, won the AT&T Dash for Cash in the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K yesterday. He's the second Dash for Cash winner, the first since 2005.

Wearing face paint, knee pads and not much else, Boren Eam had to beg his wife to run the first mile with him. After that, Glenna Eam sped off and left her husband behind, embarrassed to run with a man dressed like the Ultimate Warrior, a former pro wrestler known for sprinting out to the ring and shaking the ropes like a madman.

Making a young boy's dream come true. While that wasn't the stated mission of the Tooth Troop, that's exactly what they did. After all, it's not every day a child gets to see the tooth fairy in person.

The weather wasn't frightful yesterday, but it was not delightful either. The threat of rain before the race led some runners to get creative in their attempts to stay dry. The husband and wife team of Sharon and Cecil Salyer headed toward the starting line stylishly adorned in large plastic trash bags.

While most of Richmond was just crawling out of bed, Austin Correia was putting the finishing touches on his win in yesterday's First Market Mike Kids Race, a 1-mile fun run.
