They came in minivans and sedans. Some arrived pushing strollers before they pushed themselves toward the finish line. They came to the starting line in wave after wave, 17 waves in all, a vast sea of running and walking humanity. Many came wearing yellow Massey Cancer Center shirts that read, "I helped put cancer on the run." They came, they ran, they gave.

I did it!" Billy Weldon exclaimed. "It went well. I did it." Weldon, a Henrico County substitute teacher, won the AT&T Dash for Cash in the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K yesterday. He's the second Dash for Cash winner, the first since 2005.

Wearing face paint, knee pads and not much else, Boren Eam had to beg his wife to run the first mile with him. After that, Glenna Eam sped off and left her husband behind, embarrassed to run with a man dressed like the Ultimate Warrior, a former pro wrestler known for sprinting out to the ring and shaking the ropes like a madman.

The weather wasn't frightful yesterday, but it was not delightful either. The threat of rain before the race led some runners to get creative in their attempts to stay dry. The husband and wife team of Sharon and Cecil Salyer headed toward the starting line stylishly adorned in large plastic trash bags.

While most of Richmond was just crawling out of bed, Austin Correia was putting the finishing touches on his win in yesterday's First Market Mike Kids Race, a 1-mile fun run.
