BLACKSBURG -- Virginia Tech golfer Drew Weaver is preparing to make his third appearance on the PGA Tour this season, this time in Tiger Woods' AT&T National.
The tournament hosted by the world's top-ranked golfer begins today at the 7,255-yard, par 70 Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. Woods is the host for the second year in a row on a course that will be the site of the U.S. Open for the third time in 2011.
Weaver is a rising senior at Virginia Tech from High Point, N.C. He rose to prominence last summer when he won the British Amateur Championship.
The AT&T field also includes Virginia Tech alumnus Johnson Wagner but does not include Woods. He's recovering from reconstructive knee surgery and won't play again on tour this season. -- The Associated Press
