COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Atlantic Coast Conference pitcher of the year Angela Tincher threw a complete-game shutout to lead Virginia Tech to its second ACC softball tournament championship with a 2-0 defeat of N.C. State yesterday.
Tincher, who allowed a combined two hits and struck out 27 batters in wins on Saturday and yesterday, was voted the tournament MVP and picked up her 33rd win of the season.
Jenna Rhodes and Beth Walker scored the Hokies' runs.

Jenny Clohan threw seven innings for the Dukes, giving up three unearned runs on three hits. She walked one and struck out four.

John Barr had two hits for Virginia and Tyler Cannon scored two runs. Andrew Carraway pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs, six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Hofstra had a six-run eighth inning and defeated VCU in CAA play, ending any chance of the Rams making the league tournament. This is the first time in school history that VCU won't be in postseason play.
R.J. Schenk led the Rams' offense, notching two hits, a run scored and three RBI. Chris Jackson and Michael Cheatham each had multihit performances.
