CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Hank Coogan extended his hitting streak to 19 games but it wasn't enough as Richmond dropped an 8-7 decision to Charlotte last night.
The Spiders got off to an early 5-0 after four innings, but the 49ers stormed back to tie the game with five runs in the bottom of the fourth and ultimately won the game on a pair of errors in the seventh.
Evan Stehle went 3 for 4 with a run scored and Ryan Metzroth and Mike Mergenthaler each went 2 for 4 with Metzroth adding a run.

Cavaliers open NCAA
regional in 6th place
ATHENS, GA - Virginia got off to a good start at the NCAA regional championship, placing sixth overall to tie with No. 10 Auburn.
Whitney Neuhauser led the Cavaliers with a score of even par 72. She had 16 pars during her round and is in 10th place. Teammate Joy Kim shot 1-over 73 to stand 17th while Callie Nelson shot 2-over 74 and is 23rd.
The second round is today, with Virginia set to tee off at 12:30 p.m. The final round is tomorrow. The top eight teams from the three-day, 54-hole event will advance to the NCAA championship.
