Among Virginia schools, the College of William and Mary led the way in teams honored by the NCAA with public-recognition awards. The awards were earned in conjunction with the NCAA's Division I academic reform effort.
Eight of William and Mary's teams posted Academic Progress Rate scores in the top 10 percent of all teams in the respective sports during a four-year period (2003-04 through 2006-07).
Of the 6,272 Division I teams, 712 (11.4 percent), were honored for their multi-year academic performances. Of 329 Division schools, 192 were represented.
