DURHAM, N.C. -- Diory Hernandez had two RBI and the Richmond Braves used a four-run eighth inning to beat the Durham Bulls 6-3 last night.
Hernandez hit a home run in the third inning to tie the game at 1 and drove in another run with a left-field single in the eighth inning.
Durham's Dan Johnson scored on an error by Braves catcher Clint Sammons in the seventh inning to give the Bulls a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the eighth, the Braves loaded the bases on a single by Josh Anderson, a Wes Timmons walk and Brandon Jones' single. Anderson scored on a throwing error by Durham second baseman Josh Labandeira, allowing Barbaro Canizares to reach first base, and Timmons scored on a sacrifice fly by Scott Thorman. Hernandez drove in Jones two plays later, and Canizares' score on a wild pitch by Calvin Medlock made it 5-2.
The Bulls scored one run in the bottom of the eighth on Joel Guzman's single to right field. However, the Braves added a run in the ninth on Timmons' line-drive single.
Note: The Braves have not dropped three straight games this season. They have dropped two straight three times. Richmond has held or shared first place every day since April 9.
