Colonials' McCarty will play baseball at Barton

J.D. McCarty will be packing his catcher's mitt for Wilson, N.C., next school year. The Colonial Heights High catcher has signed a baseball scholarship with Barton College of the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas.

McCarty is hitting .478 with six home runs, four doubles and a triple to go with 26 runs batted in for the Colonials.

Panthers' Davis set on volleyball at CNU

Becca Davis has parlayed a strong volleyball career at Hermitage High into a chance to play at the next level.

The 5-9 outside hitter will be swinging next year at Christopher Newport University.

Davis was selected all-Colonial District as a junior and senior under coach Joe Durrett. She also was second-team, all-Central Region and All-Metro her final two seasons. In addition, Davis played the past four years on the national team at Richmond Volleyball Club.

Collegiate's McGee will play more lacrosse

Bo McGee will need to be fitted for two uniforms at the next stop on his educational and athletic travel itinerary. The Collegiate School senior is headed for the U.S. Military Academy Prep School in Fort Monmouth, N.J., where he will play lacrosse.

After one year at Army Prep, McGee will become a freshman at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., and join the Black Knights' program.

McGee, who also played Collegiate football, is a member of the Cougars' current 12-5 lacrosse squad.

Seal hopes to cruise to win in fight tonight

Cruiserweight Adam Seal will be throwing punches in the main event of a professional boxing show tonight at the Fredericksburg Fairgrounds.

Seal, 4-1 and fighting out of Combat Sports in western Henrico, will face Woodbridge's Derrick Amos, with a listed record of 12-25.

U-Turn 13-U girls win region, state titles

The U-Turn 13-U girls basketball squad will pack a load of momentum for it's July 9-17 trip to the AAU Division II nationals.

The squad has won region and state titles and will carry a 25-game winning streak to the national competition in Kingsport, Tenn. Team members include Lauren Anongos, Molly Carr, Becky Eliasek, Gabrielle Harris, Megan Jacoby, Erin McNally, Kala Riester, Brooke Throckmorton, Adriane Vaughan, Lauren Vugteveen, Raven Williams and Taylor Woolard. - Fred Jeter
