  • Sport/vitals: Softball, junior, pitcher
  • What she did: Townsend moved into the circle this season and has been improving each game. Even though she gave up nine hits, she beat Dominion District rival Cosby 7-5. She also had a hit, drove in a run and scored against the Titans. Against nondistrict foe Hermitage, she struck out 14 and was 2 for 3 at the plate and scored twice.
  • Age: 16
  • Strengths: "My work ethic. I worked really hard in the offseason . . . And I played travel ball also."
  • Biggest challenge: "Probably hitting. I don't work as much with hitting, so I'm not as good at it."
  • Three words your friends would use to describe you: "Clutzy, talkative - well, loud more than talkative - and I guess outgoing."
  • Favorite food: Pepperoni pizza
  • Favorite ice cream: Mint chocolate chip
  • If you had one wish: "To win state would be nice before I graduate."
  • Best sports memory: "Probably with the Dixie Chicks (USSSA 16-U B team) when we won nationals in Midlothian."
  • What's on your iPod: "A mix of a lot of music, probably country is the most."
  • One thing about you most people don't know: "People know a lot about me, but I guess this past week, I did win second vice president for SCA."
  • Athlete you admire most: USA softball pitcher and Olympic gold-medalist Jennie Finch. - Andee Sears
