Jessee's 3-pointer gives Cosby victory

Ben Jessee hit a 3-pointer with less that 15 seconds remaining to lead host Cosby to a 65-64 victory over Douglas Freeman last night in the first round of the Central Region tournament.

Jessee scored 32 points, 20 in the first half. Luke Atwood had 14 points, and David Robinson added 11 for the Titans.

Jake Eastman's 26 points paced Douglas Freeman. Josh Brinkley contributed 12.

Randall Ward, Devon Thornton and Randall Braxton scored 12 points apiece to lead John Marshall to a victory over visiting Manchester.

Travis McKie scored 11 points, and Daris Jackson added 10 in the victory.

Greg Van Dyke led Manchester with 24 points, and James Wyatt added 12.

Highland Springs 82,

 

Chris Hilliard and Daz Starke each scored 18 points to lead Highland Springs to a win over visiting Thomas Dale.

Hilliard added 16 rebounds and two steals, and Starke grabbed 10 rebounds, three blocks and two steals for the Springers. Harry Lee Daniel finished with 15 points (four steals, three assists) and Harvey Mills scored 10 points.

Malcolm King tallied 18 points to lead the Knights.

Henrico freshman Trey Davis scored all 18 of his points in the first half as Henrico jumped out to a 15-point lead and defeated visiting Hopewell.

Jamar Cooper added 18 points and nine rebounds, and the Warriors had all starters in double figures.

Rico Ferguson led all scorers with 29 points (nine rebounds, eight assists) in L.C. Bird's defeat of visiting Deep Run.

Kendrick McClary scored 15 points, and Travis Keels rounded out with nine points, 12 rebounds and five blocks for the Skyhawks.

Antoine Exum paced Deep Run with 18 points and Jordan Ward had 13.

Chevon Davenport led Varina with 14 points.

PETERSBURG - Ibn Rassoul scored a game-high 26 points and dished out seven assists as Petersburg raced out an early lead and advanced with a win over Armstrong.

Cedarian Raines added 12 points, eight rebounds and five blocks for the Crimson Wave. Quentin Christian and Nathaniel Taylor scored 15 points apiece to lead the Wildcats.
