CAROLINA (4-1)
AT TAMPA BAY (3-2)Time: 1 p.m.
Line: Bucs by 1½ Panthers: Carolina, which has won five straight at Tampa, is off to best start since '03 Super Bowl team and can make major move in NFC South race. Defense is growing in confidence, allowing only 46 points in past four games (3-1). Buccaneers: Likely go back to QB Jeff Garcia with Brian Griese battling elbow injury. They'll have to rely on RBs Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn to win. Fantasy outlook: Panthers QB Jake Delhomme is 7-1 vs. Bucs, completing 62.4 percent with 13 TDs vs. 7 INTs. Bucs' Graham, averaging 5.9 yards, has a rushing TD in five straight home games. The Wrath of Woody: Stat to digest: The Bucs average almost as much on each running play as they do on each passing play. Ouch. Tampa Bay 17, Carolina 16 CHICAGO (3-2)
AT ATLANTA (3-2)Time: 1 p.m.
Line: Bears by 3 Bears: QB Kyle Orton's improved passing grabs headlines, but Bears may be NFC North's best because defense is carrying its share of load. Could dominate Falcons' young offense and rookie QB Matt Ryan. Falcons: Have won their two home games by combined score of 72-35 (Lions, Chiefs) but Bears pose bigger challenge. Big games needed from RB Michael Turner and pass-rusher John Abraham (NFL-leading 7 sacks). Fantasy outlook: Bears RB Matt Forte leads rookies with 383 rushing yards (3.6 average). Falcons WR Roddy White is having a solid season with 26 catches, 2 TDs. The Wrath of Woody: It's time to start believe the Falcons are for real (unless they lose today). Atlanta 23, Chicago 20 MIAMI (2-2)
AT HOUSTON (0-4)Time: 1 p.m.
Line: Texans by 3 Dolphins: Is Bill Parcells' magic touch working from front office? After beating last year's AFC finalists (Patriots, Chargers) in past two, there could be letdown. Texans: Have to shake off blowing 17-point, fourth-quarter lead to Colts. Hard-luck team of NFL is due to snap out of it as QB Matt Schaub (U.Va.) returns to lineup. Fantasy outlook: Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown, who has rushed for 238 yards past two games, is tied for NFL lead with 6 rushing TDs. Texans rookie RB Steve Slaton has 336 total yards, 4 TDs in past three games. The Wrath of Woody: Any team that can lose as the Texans did last week, can lose to the Dolphins at home. Miami 10, Houston 6 BALTIMORE (2-2)
AT INDIANAPOLIS (2-2)Time: 1 p.m.
Line: Colts by 4 On the air: TV -- WWBT-12; radio -- WRNL (910), 12:30 Ravens: Have a shot if they control ball with running game and don't ask rookie QB Joe Flacco (1 TD pass, 4 INTs) to do too much. Colts: Only few plays away from being 0-4. They have to figure out way to shore up their rushing defense, which is last in league (188.5 yards per game). Fantasy outlook: Ravens FB Le'Ron McClain has 4 rushing TDs and is getting 4.2 yards per carry. Colts RB Joseph Addai rushed for 2 TDs in win over Ravens in December, and has 4 TDs this year. The Wrath of Woody: Don't be fooled by the Colts. They're on the precipice of trouble. Indianapolis 19, Baltimore 17 DETROIT (0-4)
AT MINNESOTA (2-3)Time: 1 p.m.
Line: Vikings by 13 Lions: Detroit is losing by 20.3 points per game, and Lions are playing in a building where they haven't won since 1997 (10 straight losses). Vikings: With two wins in past three, Vikings have jumped into playoff race with QB Gus Frerotte as the starter. They've been winning with mediocre production from RB Adrian Peterson (63-yard average in past three games). Fantasy outlook: Lions need to control ball with rookie RB Kevin Smith (3.6 yards per carry, 2 rushing TDs). Vikings WR Bernard Berrian, who had a 33-yard TD catch last week, is playing a larger role. The Wrath of Woody: Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes. Detroit is the team of 10,000 mistakes. Minnesota 31, Detroit 20 OAKLAND (1-3)
AT NEW ORLEANS (2-3)Time: 1 p.m.
Line: Saints by 7 Raiders: It's first game under new coach Tom Cable, who inherits team that needs to win on defense. DE Kalimba Edwards has 3 sacks in past three games and must have big day. Saints: Face early turning point, and can't afford mistake-filled game like their loss to Minnesota on Monday. Fantasy outlook: Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell has thrown 4 TDs, 1 INT. Saints RB Reggie Bush keeps getting into end zone (6 TDs, 3 on punt returns). The Wrath of Woody: Raiders owner Al Davis has changed the team's slogan from "Just win, baby" to "The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby" in honor of Richmonder Tom Wolfe. New Orleans 26, Oakland 13 CINCINNATI (0-5)
AT N.Y. JETS (2-2)Time: 1 p.m.
Line: Jets by 9 Bengals: Cincinnati ranks as one of NFL's top disappointments, but coach Marvin Lewis is hanging in there. The Bengals can score, at least. Jets: Return from week off and hoping their offense didn't get rusty during break. New York has scored 85 points in its past two games as QB Brett Favre leads NFL in passer rating (110.8) and TD passes (12). Fantasy outlook: Should be big day for WRs such as the Bengals' T. J. Houshmandzadeh (31 catches, 3 TDs) and the Jets' Laveranues Coles (18 catches, 4 TDs). The Wrath of Woody: When Bengals ownership told Lewis he can coach as long as he wants, Lewis thought, "Why am I being punished?" New York Jets 29, Cincinnati 26 JACKSONVILLE (2-3)
AT DENVER (4-1)Time: 4:05 p.m.
Line: Broncos by 3½ Jaguars: Haven't played a game this season decided by more than 7 points, meaning Jacksonville always is within big play of winning. But firepower is lacking. Broncos: Denver is 3-0 at home, with victory margins of one, two and three points. They can't let Jaguars stay close, so they need some big passing plays. Fantasy outlook: Jaguars RB Fred Taylor averages 3.4 yards per carry but still is looking for first rushing TD. Broncos WR Brandon Marshall (3 TDs) leads AFC with 34 catches. The Wrath of Woody: The Jaguars lost players early. The Broncos are losing players now. Denver 23, Jacksonville 16 DALLAS (4-1)
AT ARIZONA (3-2)Time: 4:15 p.m.
Line: Cowboys by 4½
TV: WRLH-35 Cowboys: Learned they aren't invincible with close call vs. Bengals last week and loss to Redskins two weeks ago. Controlling ball will be key. Cardinals: QB Kurt Warner, 37, is talking about retiring after season, just as he's getting Arizona going in a winning direction. A few big pass plays would be key to upset. Fantasy outlook: Cowboys WR Terrell Owens has 26 catches, 5 TDs in past 4 games vs. Cardinals. Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (4 TDs) has team-high 31 catches. The Wrath of Woody: Instead of being part of an HBO series next summer, the Cowboys are under consideration for "Law and Order" episodes. Dallas 31, Arizona 28 PHILADELPHIA (2-3)
AT SAN FRANCISCO (2-3)Time: 4:15 p.m.
Line: Eagles by 4½ Eagles: QB Donovan McNabb stepped up this week and called team's performance in loss to Redskins "embarrassing." Eagles can't afford to fall further behind in NFC East. 49ers: QB J. T. O'Sullivan has thrown 5 TD passes vs. 4 INTs at home but will need some big plays in this one. Fantasy outlook: Eagles WR DeSean Jackson leads rookies with 335 receiving yards (1 TD). RB Frank Gore remains 49ers' best hope, leading NFL with 603 yards from scrimmage (4 TDs). The Wrath of Woody: The most interesting thing about McNabb's blog is that he writes it from the huddle. Philadelphia 43, San Francisco 41 GREEN BAY (2-3)
AT SEATTLE (1-3)Time: 4:15 p.m.
Line: Seahawks by 1
Radio: WRNL (910), 4 Packers: Green Bay beat Seattle in playoffs last season with 201-yard, 3-TD game from RB Ryan Grant, who is looking for his first big game of season. That would take some pressure of Aaron Rodgers, playing with sore shoulder. Seahawks: After blowout loss on road to Giants, it's time for Seattle to get act together or watch playoff hopes disappear. Defense will be key. Fantasy outlook: Packers RB Greg Jennings, who had 2 TDs vs. Seahawks in January, has 3 TD receptions this season. Seahawks RB Julius Jones (Big Stone Gap) has rushed for 267 yards and 2 TDs in two home games this season. The Wrath of Woody: A word of advice to coaches everywhere. Never, ever, never, never, never let your team know you're in the last year on the job. Green Bay 26, Seattle 20 NEW ENGLAND (3-1)
SAN DIEGO (2-3)Time: 8:15 p.m.
Line: Chargers by 5 On the air: TV -- WWBT-12; radio -- WRNL (910), 7:30 Patriots: Stayed in California after Sunday's win at San Francisco to get some extra rest. But winning two on this kind of trip is difficult. Chargers: Lost twice to Pats last season, including AFC title game. They're desperate for win, and they're at home. Fantasy outlook: Patriots QB Matt Cassel has settled down, throwing 3 TD passes vs. 3 INTs. Chargers QB Philip Rivers is second in NFL with 103.0 passer rating and 11 TD passes. The Wrath of Woody: Did the the Patriots learn nothing from the Cardinals' experiment staying on the East Coast before playing the Jets? San Diego 27, New England 23 N.Y. GIANTS (4-0)
AT CLEVELAND (1-3)Tomorrow: 8:30 p.m.
Line: Giants by 7½ On the air: TV -- ESPN; radio -- WRNL (910), 9 p.m.(joined in progress) Giants: With NFL's top-ranked offense, Giants are playing in high gear, winning by average of 19.5 points. They shouldn't be challenged here. Browns: Still searching for answers, but they won't come easily against NFC's best defense. Fantasy outlook: Giants RB Brandon Jacobs averages 5.8 yards per carry with 3 rushing TDs. Browns QB Derek Anderson has only 3 TD passes vs. 6 INTs. The Wrath of Woody: Giants coach Tom Coughlin has become so mellow that he has a chart in his office listing each player's astrological sign. New York Giants 29, Cleveland 17 -- Chicago Tribune
Off: Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Tennessee For the record: Overall -- Last week, 6-8; Year, 42-32. Against the line -- Last week, 5-8-1; Year, 35-37-2.
