Veteran drag racer Bobby Martindale of Glen Allen died in a crash Saturday at the Atlanta Dragway. He was 65.

According to the National Hot Rod Association Web site, Mr. Martindale crashed after the engine in his Top Alcohol Funny Car apparently failed and the car continued down the track. Other Web sites said the car's brake parachute did not deploy.

Mr. Martindale was racing in the NHRA Southeast Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.
