Hampton, Mitchell each have big day for Virginia State in loss

The Vikings' Ricky Hill became the first player in school history to rush for 100 yards and did so in a 357 blowout against Virginia State.

Trojans freshman Taron Hampton had 137 yards rushing and linebacker Isaac Mitchell totalled an impressive 13 tackles. Unfortunately, neither effort was enough to counter an explosive Elizabeth City State offense that totalled 396 yards.

  • HAMPDEN-SYDNEY 37, BRIDGEWATER 34: Despite a gutsy fourth quarter 28-point rally, the homestanding Eagles fell to the Tigers (5-0).

    Hampden-Sydney's defense, led by Josh Miller's eight tackles, held the Eagles to just 16 yards rushing and 99 yards through the air in the first two quarters.

    Tigers quarterback Corey Sedlar (Mills Godwin) had a tremendous day, passing for five TDs and 412 yards on 26 completions in 44 attempts.


  • WASHINGTON AND LEE 28, RANDOLPH-MACON 16: Washington and Lee's Stuart Sitterson ran for 135 yards and a touchdown to lead the Generals past the visiting Yellow Jackets (ODAC 1-1, 2-3).

    Washington and Lee put the game away on the opening drive of the second half when Billy Murray caught a Charlie Westfal pass for a touchdown, giving the Generals (1-0, 4-1) a 28-3 lead.

    Brandon Braner led the Jackets offense with 13 receptions for 141 yards.

    SALISBURY 48, APPRENTICE 17: Sam Arnold rushed for 35 yards, Phil Caralla threw for 182, but the Builders fell to the 17th-ranked Sea Gulls in Newport News.

    UVA-WISE 35, GEORGETOWN 28: James Haley picked off a Georgetown pass with 33 seconds remaining to seal the 13th-ranked Cavaliers a Mid-South East road victory.

  • FERRUM 30, AVERETT 9: Anthony Squillimi led the Cougars (0-1 USA South, 1-3) with nine catches for 11 yards, while Shan Fairbanks completed 17 of 30 passes for 161 yards, but the homestanding Panthers (2-0, 4-1) took advantage of several opportunities in the second half to pull away for the win.
  • EMORY & HENRY 28, METH ODIST 7: Caleb Jennings rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns and Brent McDonald was 12 of 20 for 73 yards to lead the Wasps over the visiting Monarchs.

    GUILFORD 47, SOUTHERN VIR GINIA 31: Harry Collins scored two touchdowns for the Knights, but homestanding Guilford made a late fumble recovery to secure the win.
