REDSKINS' OFFENSE VS. EAGLES' DEFENSE In a league filled with physical, rock-'em, sock-'em defenses, the Eagles might be the most physical. They will blitz on any down. They send linebackers, safeties and cornerbacks. They blitz to sack the quarterback, and they blitz to stop the run. RBs Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts have to keep their heads on a swivel and pick up the extra pass rusher. QB Jason Campbell has to be aware of blitzers coming through unblocked and get rid of the ball quickly. Campbell has yet to fumble or throw an interception, and it's difficult to see that streak continuing against the Eagles. The matchup between Redskins WR Santana Moss and Eagles CB Asante Samuel will have a major impact. Advantage: Washington EAGLES' OFFENSE VS. REDSKINS' DEFENSE So much depends on RB Brian Westbrook, who is nursing an ankle injury. If Westbrook plays, he is a tough matchup for the Redskins, who might finally have the defender who can challenge Westbrook. Rookie SS Chris Horton is proving he can cover as well as play the run. Rookie WR DeSean Jackson is a playmaking receiver, but the Redskins' cornerbacks, especially Shawn Springs and Carlos Rogers, have been playing well. Springs, however, has a strained calf and is questionable. Eagles QB Donovan McNabb is no stranger to success against Washington. Advantage: Washington SPECIAL TEAMS The Eagles have been more effective in punt coverage and punt returns. The Redskins' kickoff coverage has been better. This game could come down to a long, last-second field goal attempt. Eagles K David Akers is proven in that regard. Redskins K Shaun Suisham is not. Advantage: Philadelphia COACHING The Eagles' Andy Reid and the Redskins' Jim Zorn are members of the Mike Holmgren coaching tree (Green Bay, Seattle). Reid is as steady a coach as there is in the NFL. Zorn is learning, and learning well, in his first head-coaching job. Advantage: Philadelphia INTANGIBLES The Eagles play in one of the toughest venues for a visiting team. The Redskins love playing in front of a hostile crowd and are brimming with confidence after winning in Dallas, but they aren't overconfident. Advantage: Washington WRATH OF WOODY The Eagles attempt to slow down the Redskins' offense by sending over cheesesteaks at halftime. But the Skins resist the temptation to chow down. Washington 17, Philadelphia 16
