A couple of Hermitage High School graduates will try to kick-start their college teams Saturday night.
Junior Andrew Howard will handle field-goal opportunities for the University of Richmond at Elon, whose placement specialist is senior Andrew Wilcox. They practiced together for several summers, though Wilcox remained in North Carolina to work this summer.
Wilcox has the stronger leg, according to Hermitage coach Patrick Kane, but each is extremely accurate from close-range. Howard is 92 for 92 in PAT attempts since becoming UR's kicker in 2006, which is a school record. Wilcox has converted his past 50 PAT tries.
Wilcox was named All-Southern Conference as a junior in 2006, when he hit 12 of 18 FG attempts. Last season, he was 14 of 24 on FG attempts; Howard was 15 of 22.
