WOOD'S WINNERS

Third Race No. 2 Dolphin Star was 0-for 2 at Colonial in 2007, but those starts were in allowance races. The 6 year old mare drops quite a bit in class from those efforts here today and could be a surprise. No. 1 Doots is the early choice, and trainer Ham Smith's charge is a horse for the course, having won 4 of 10 races at Colonial Downs. Fresh off a tight runner-up finish, she will be a factor. No. 7 Sugar Booger made a switch back to turf several starts ago and it paid immediate dividends. She'll be right there as well. No. 2 to win.

Sixth Race No. 9 Mr. Provost has been second or third in each of his last 5 outings, but tackles turf for the first time today. Garcia in the irons is a plus. No. 7 Pulverizer hasn't done much of late, but his second start this meet over the grass should see an improvement. When seeking a horse to complete the trifecta, you have to go with a Ferris Allen trainee. In this case, it's No. 1 Open Road, and we'll keep rolling the dice with a hot stable. No. 9 is the choice.

Seventh Race No. 6 Budget Buster's last two races were taken off the turf due to weather, so its hard to gauge where this horse could actually be. With a nice battery of trainer Garcia and jockey Lopez, we'll take a shot at success here in this maiden event. No. 5 A Change of Heart is a Trombetta trainee and that immediately warrants attention. The young but capable Sheldon Russell guides this horse in his first career start. No. 7 Prince Noir showed enough in his initial bow that he could crack the top three here. No. 6 to win.
