Cavaliers hire Hawks' Zach Just
The Hanover High football coaching staff is down one Just.
Zach Just, the middle brother between head coach Josh and line coach Jake, will be the head coach at King William this fall. Just replaces Cavaliers' legend Roger Brookes, who left King William to become coach at Henrico.
Just, 27, has been Hanover's offensive coordinator the past two seasons. The Hawks won the Central Region, Division 5 championship last fall.
Hanover basketball turns to Manns
The boys basketball coach at Hanover has changed.
Mike Rohr, the Hawks' head man for three seasons, has resigned, and Troy Manns has been named to replace him.
Manns was a first-team all-state performer for the Patrick Henry-Roanoke team that won the state Group AAA championship in 1992. He went to George Mason, then finished his college career at Virginia Tech. He's coming to Hanover from Patrick Henry, where he has been an assistant. Manns teaches English.
Rohr, who teaches physical education, will continue as the boys volleyball coach.

The recipient of the Richmond Track and Field Club's Granger Ancarrow memorial scholarship is Prince George High pole vaulter Alex Habermehl.
Collegiate swimmers Alex Stott and Drake Watson have been named academic All-Americans by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association. The organization also recognized the Cougars' boys and girls teams with bronze Scholar Team Awards based on their respective team GPAs.
Collegiate swimmers Stuart Ferguson, Mac Anthony, Thomas Stephens, Jamie Anderson, Drake Watson and Rachel Naurath have met the standards for automatic All-America status for their accomplishments this season. Earning All-America consideration are Carter Stephens, Kate Byron, Katie Wiltshire and Brooks Ross.
All-Metro basketball first-teamer Travis McKie of John Marshall was named the U16 select team MVP at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions in Chapel Hill, N.C. McKie plays AAU ball for Boo Williams.
Where they are going
Highland Springs point guard Harvey Mills is staying close to home to play college basketball. Mills, a shooting guard before converting to the point this past season, has signed with Virginia State. Mills was the Springers' second-leading scorer. He also was Highland Springs' boys scholar-athlete of the year.
Monacan golfer Austin Gray will play in college at Longwood University. Gray is a two-time All-Metro selection. He was third in last fall's Central Region tournament and eighth at the state Group AAA event. Also in coach Kevin Fillman's recruiting class is Ross Sumner of Northumberland, who finished in the top 10 at the Group A tournament all four years in high school.
The Dinwiddie football duo of defensive lineman Steffon Luccess and past all-Central District linebacker and guard Andrew Wagy will continue their gridiron careers at Ferrum College.
Collegiate swimmers Jamie Anderson (Penn) and Ben Howe (Carnegie Mellon) will continue their swimming careers in college. Molly Farmer will play lacrosse at Sewanee.
Four James River football players will be headed to the next level. Drew Holmes, a tight end and the All-Metro punter, will be a preferred walk-on at James Madison. Offensive tackle John Tondrowski will have the same status for the new program at Old Dominion. First-team all-Dominion District wide receiver and defensive back Austin Owens is headed to Bridgewater, and two-way lineman Bryan Poole is bound for Ferrum.
Benedictine football teammates August Berling and Will Garner will become part of one of the area's storied rivalries next year. Berling, a linebacker, is headed to Hampden-Sydney. Garner, an offensive lineman, is going to Randolph-Macon. Cadets' baseball catcher Jake Broaddus has cast his lot with Roanoke College. -- Arthur Utley
