The NBA playoffs aren't the only opportunity for fans to watch hoops today.

In Ashland, the second annual Commonwealth Collegiate Challenge starts at 4:30 p.m. at Randolph-Macon College's Crenshaw Gymnasium.

This basketball game showcases college seniors with ties to the state. One team - called the Seniors of the Commonwealth - consists of Virginia Military Institute's Reggie Williams (Prince George High), Virginia Commonwealth's Jamal Shuler and Michael Anderson, Old Dominion's Brian Henderson (Varina High), William and Mary's Laimis Kisielius and George Mason's Will Thomas. Petersburg High's Bill Lawson III will coach this team.

Its opponent - called the Seniors of the ACC Extended - brings together Virginia Tech's Deron Washington and Marcus Travis, the University of Virginia's Sean Singletary and Adrian Joseph, Maryland's Bambale Osby (Benedictine High), Virginia Union's Brad Byerson (Thomas Dale High) and the University of Richmond's Oumar Sylla. Henrico High's Vance Harmon is the ACC Extended team's coach.

Tickets are $10 at the door. Some of the proceeds from the game will benefit the Blue Sky Fund, a non-profit organization for inner-city youths. - Jeff White
