Notable : Surry (15-12) is in the state final for the second time. The Cougars won the state championship in 2005 under Joe Ellis, who died shortly thereafter from cancer. Landon Pittman is in his first year as Surry's coach. The Cougars defeated Page County and Galax to reach the final. . . . Nelson County (27-1) has set a school record for victories and earned a berth in the final in its first state tourney appearance. The Governors got to the final with wins over Chesterfield Community and Twin Valley. Brandon Garrett is in his second year as Nelson's coach.
