If you want to change careers, are trying to find a new job, need to put a résumé together or want tips on interviewing, there is a lot of good, free advice available.
Job seekers can use printed resources, such as local newspapers or a wide variety of books and articles available at the public library. Or if you have access to a computer, job information can be as close as your fingertips.
Numerous Web sites are devoted to matching people with positions. Many also offer tips on résumé writing and interviewing skills.
Internet resources are relatively easy to maneuver and include sites such as Yahoo!HotJobs.com, Monster.com, Jobs.com and CareerBuilder.com.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch has daily job listings in the classified section, as well as informative job-related articles that offer a wealth of advice.
On Sunday, the classified section is a comprehensive print listing of jobs.
On Monday, the same information from the Sunday job listings is rolled into Jobs Weekly, which also includes a feature that explores a local company.
"Resumania," a syndicated column that gives advice and tips on creating a résumé, appears in the Monday Metro Business section. Then on Wednesdays, a different career is profiled each week in the classified advertisement section. The Business section that runs every day is also a great method of keeping up with the goings-on at area companies.
Many of the job listings in The Times-Dispatch's classified section also are posted electronically at inRich.com, the newspaper's Web site.
InRich.com also provides local information on education and training opportunities. Under Job Watch, articles profile specific jobs in the area. Under Video Top Jobs, you can step right into the workplace via video and see some of the employees and hear about job opportunities at local companies. And employers can also use this site to post employment opportunities both online and in the newspaper.
