Leesburg Loudoun County school Superintendent Edgar Hatrick says he erred when he pulled a book from general circulation in the elementary school libraries. The book, titled "And Tango Makes Three," is about a penguin family with two fathers. After a parent complained that it promoted a gay agenda, Hatrick decided that only teachers and parents would have access to the book. Last week, Hatrick told the School Board that the complaint involved only Sugarland Elementary, and librarians at other schools have the option of returning the book to the shelves.

Roanoke A judge has upheld a jury verdict in the case of a 4-year-old boy who died when he was run over by a lawn mower. A jury in June 2006 found lawn mower manufacturer MTD Products liable for $2 million in the death of Justin Simmons at a day-care center run at a Daleville home. The mower rolled off a hill and onto him as he played in the yard. The company challenged the verdict, claiming it was based on sympathy for the boy's family rather than an objective consideration of the law.

Fredericksburg Police were awaiting word yesterday on what caused the death of a Roanoke man just after he was arrested. Police have not released the name of the 37-year-old man, but said he stopped breathing Sunday night in the back of a police cruiser after he was put in leg restraints. Police said the man had forced his way into a motel office and attacked the manager with a knife, then was subdued by the manager and family members until officers arrived.
