2007 Virginia animal-fighting cases

Jan. 21: 145 people were arrested, 126 birds were seized and nearly $40,000 confiscated at the South Hill cockfighting pit in Boydton. Ten children were present, including a 4-year-old.
March 19: A man was caught on video trying to make two pit bulls fight in Staunton. A man at the same location was then charged with letting his pit bull wander onto a neighbor's property.
April 6: Two Virginia Beach men were arrested and two dogs seized after it was reported dogs were fighting in a backyard.
April 25: The Surry County home of NFL star Mi chael Vick was raided. Sixty-six dogs, dogfighting paraphernalia and a bloody carpet were seized.
May 5: Federal and state law-enforcement agencies raided a cockfighting pit in Page County. Four people were later indicted on federal charges.
June 18: Stacy A. Miller of Richmond was sentenced to four years in prison for dogfighting. He also has to pay a $20,000 fine, $25,000 in restitution and is prohibited from owning any companion animals.
Dec. 14: Eight pit bulls and dogfighting paraphernalia were seized from a Virginia Beach home.
