Welcome to the Times-Dispatch Cartoon Caption Contest! Here's how it works: HOW TO ENTER We provide the cartoon. You provide the caption. (Where appropriate, you provide the text for the dialogue or thought balloon(s) as well.) You can submit entries by mail, fax, e-mail, or online (details below). The deadline for receipt of entries is midnight on the last day of the month. The editors will select the winner. THE RULES Of course there are rules. (1) Keep it clean. No profanity or obscenity. (2) No alterations. You may not change, crop, delete, erase, shade, or otherwise amend the illustration in any way. You may suggest only captions, dialogue, or unspoken thoughts (where appropriate). (3) All decisions by the editors are final. (4) When submitting your entry, be sure to type or print "Cartoon Caption Contest" predominantly on your letter or fax, or in the subject line of your e-mail. (5) Be sure to provide your contact information (address, phone number, e-mail address). These will not be published; we just want to be able to reach you. (6) No purchase necessary. (7) The Times-Dispatch reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of the contest, and to suspend or cancel it, without notice. Entering the contest signifies consent to have your entry reproduced and published by The Times-Dispatch in print or digital form, or both. (8) Media General employees and their immediate family are not eligible to win. PRIZES The winner (if there is one; the editors reserve the right not to select a winning entry) will be sent a signed copy of the original drawing with his entry inked in by staff cartoonist Gary Brookins.
