A Caroline County Circuit Court judge set a September trial date today for a man arrested in connection with the disappearance of his wife in 1995.

Lawrence Peter Gaudenzi, 44, is scheduled for trial beginning Sept. 17 on a murder charge a Caroline grand jury handed down after recently considering new information about the 13-year-old case.

Gaudenzi lived with his wife, Lisa Kathy Gaudenzi, in Caroline County when she disappeared in January 1995 after failing to report for Army officer training at Fort Lee.

Her body has not been found.

Gaudenzi, who has been living in the Shenandoah Valley, was also arraigned yesterday on an indecent liberties charge for proposing sex with a 16-year-old, Commonwealth's Attorney Tony Spencer said. That charge is not related to the murder charge, Spencer said. The trial on the indecent liberties charge is scheduled for Sept. 24.

He is being held without bond in the Pamunkey Regional Jail in Hanover County.
