Gas prices continue to rise in many areas of Virginia as we approach the Memorial Day weekend, which is normally a busy driving period.

AAA Mid-Atlantic this morning said the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline is $3.81 nationwide, $3.73 in Virginia and $3.74 in Richmond.

The national and Virginia prices are new records; the Richmond price is the same as yesterday's, which was also a record.
