The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia is searching for a new executive director.
Nicole Gilpin Hood left her post as interim director on April 30 but will continue in an advisory capacity until a new director is hired. Stacy Burrs, chairman of the museum's board of directors, said Hood resigned to spend more time with her two young daughters.
"The work of the museum is going forward," said Burrs.
He said a museum committee met yesterday to set a timeline for the search and to begin looking over applications already received.
The deadline for applications is June 14, and a new director should be on the job by September, he said.
The museum -- at 00 Clay St. in Richmond's Jackson Ward -- also is seeking new revenue sources to make up for the loss of $30,000 in state funding.
"The museum is stable," Burrs said. "It won't be cutting hours."
The museum, is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children 12 and younger.
