HARRISONBURG -- A Rockingham County man who won $9 million in the lottery in 2001 died after his truck crashed into a tree.
Dana Martz of Singers Glen hit all five numbers in the Big Game, a multistate lottery game that is now called Mega Millions. He bought his ticket at a 7-Eleven in Broadway.
Virginia State Police said Martz apparently lost control of his truck on Virginia 259 about 12:45 a.m. Sunday. Police said Martz had sideswiped a tractor-trailer and continued on for about a mile.
First Sergeant Bryan Hutcheson said police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor.
Virginia Lottery spokesman John Hagerty said the 56-year-old Martz opted to receive $346,000 a year for 26 years. He said the remaining money will go to Martz's beneficiary.
