Area businesses named for being leading employers

The Greater Richmond Chamber and the Richmond Human Resource Management Association honored several area employers for innovation and community support this morning.

Six local businesses received the Alfred P. Sloan Award for business excellence in workplace flexibility.

The winners are: Bon Secours Richmond Health System, Capital One Financial, Hilb Rogal & Hobbs, Lee Hecht Harrison, Rink Management Service Corp. and VCU Health Systems.

Old Dominion Security Company received honorable mention.

The Sloan Award is a national contest that honors employers who score in the top 20 percent in the nation for workplace flexibility and excellence.

The annual All Star Awards also were presented in the following categories and, in some cases, based on company size:

  • Employer of Choice: VCU Health Systems (large company); SnagAJob.com (mid-size company); CRT/Tanaka (small company)
  • Best recruitment, engagement and retention practices: Virginia Farm Bureau
  • Diversity excellence: Dominion
  • Workforce development: Wyeth (large); Rainbow Station (mid-size)
  • Human resource process excellence or re-engineering award (recognizing employers who overcame a challenge by changing management or promoting organizational effectiveness): Dominion (large); Home Care Delivered (mid-size)
