A Petersburg parent has filed a lawsuit against the Petersburg School Board seeking $5,000 after the city changed the time of the high school's graduation.
Alfreda Payne filed a lawsuit against the School Board on Monday seeking $5,000 to replace the invitations she had made for her son's graduation, as well as for "pain and suffering."
Two weeks ago, the School Board changed the graduation time on June 6 from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m.
The last of Payne's three sons is graduating, and she had already ordered a 25-invitation package with the 6 p.m. time, she said. She has to ask for a day off from work without pay because of the time change, and the change will cost the family pain and suffering because relatives can't get off work to come to the graduation, she said.
School officials have no comment on the lawsuit.
