Saturation patrols set on 288 stretch
Monday, Jul 14, 2008 - 12:09 AM Updated: 12:42 AM
Expect to see an increased state police presence along a 7-mile stretch of state Route 288 in Goochland County today and tomorrow.
The stretch begins at the World War II Veterans' Memorial Bridge and ends where Route 288 connects with Interstate 64. It was selected for saturation patrols as part of a fatality-reduction initiative that aims to encourage safe driving by increasing the visibility of troopers.
The portion of Route 288 is one of several in central Virginia being targeted for increased enforcement.
From Oct. 1 through March 31, that stretch of Route 288 experienced 52 traffic crashes; 11 of them involved injuries, and one included a fatality, police say.
