Another wreck is blocking traffic on northbound Interstate 95, less than an hour after police cleared out the last remnants of three accidents that snarled traffic in both directions for much of the morning.

A mother and her 11-year-old child received non-life threatening injuries when their Oldsmobile Alero was struck by a recreational vehicle that changed lanes suddenly while traveling southbound on Interstate 95 near the Boulevard exit. Police said the driver apparently was looking at two wrecks that had partly blocked the highway's northbound lanes since about 10 a.m.

The first incident occurred when driver in a Honda Civic braked suddenly in a northbound lane of the interstate near the Boulevard exit. A box truck hit the Honda from behind. No one was injured.

However, police said the driver of a Chevrolet van attempting to avoid the wreck changed lanes suddenly and hit an Izuzu truck. Again, there were no injuries.

The third wreck occurred in the southbound lanes about 11:30 a.m. The woman and her child were taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment.

"All drivers responsible were ticketed," said Sgt. Tom Cunningham.

At one point, two southbound lanes of Interstate 95 were closed, but police reopened them shortly after noon.

Within the hour, however, another wreck had snarled traffic in the northbound lanes of the interstate near the Boulevard exit. Police had no further information on the latest mishap.
