RUCKERSVILLE -- A Ruckersville man who was shot by a Greene County sheriff's deputy Tuesday afternoon has been charged with three felonies.

Jonithan Tracy Mullins, 33, was charged with using a firearm in a felony, possession of a firearm by a felon and attempted capital murder, said Sgt. David O. Cooper of the Virginia State Police.

Mullins is being held at the Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange.

Greene County deputies were called to a house Tuesday about 5:45 p.m. for reports of a man shooting a gun from the front porch. Upon their arrival, a man fired at the deputies and toward other homes nearby, authorities said. No one was injured from his gunfire.

The deputies warned him to drop his gun, but the man raised his weapon and pointed it toward a deputy, said Greene County Sheriff Scott Haas. A deputy shot Mullins in one arm.

Mullins was treated at the University of Virginia Medical Center and was arrested by state police after his release yesterday morning.

The deputy, whose identity has not been released, has been placed on administrative duty during the investigation.
