Two men were found shot to death late this morning in the Brodnax area of Brunswick County.
A 911 call to the Brunswick Sheriff's Office about 11:30 a.m. summoned officers to a residence in the 100 block of Brodnax Road, Sheriff Brian Roberts said.
The caller initially reported a traffic wreck but called again to say that the windows of the car involved in the wreck apparently had been shot out and a man was lying in the front yard, the sheriff said.
"The caller said the subject was face down in the yard and was still breathing," Roberts said.
Roberts was the first officer to arrive and went immediately to the body in the yard. The man was dead.
Roberts' chief deputy, next on the scene, went to check a 2000 black Mercedes Benz in a ditch across the road. There he found the body of a man in the front passenger seat, the sheriff said.
Both men had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso, Roberts said.
The victim found in the yard was identified as William Henricks Jr., 25, of the Brodnax area of Brunswick. The man in the car was identified as Bryant Lambert, 20, of the Brodnax area of neighboring Mecklenburg County, the sheriff said.
There were no suspects in the shooting as of about 7 p.m., he said. The killings were the Brunswick's first homicides since February 2007.
Brodnax is a community that straddles the Brunswick-Mecklenburg line on U.S. 58 about 13 miles north of the Virginia-North Carolina line.
