The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Louisa County until 10 p.m.
The service issued a tornado watch for all of Central Virginia until 3 a.m.
Thunderstorms, heavy rain and severe weather could sweep through Central Virginia as a cold front moves through tonight.
However, tonight's weather is not expected to be as severe as the storms that slammed the state with 10 tornadoes a week ago, said Keith Lynch, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
"You could get some rumbles of thunder and some of the storms could be stronger than others," Lynch said.
A low-pressure system in the Tennessee Ohio valley is moving to the east. The Central Virginia area should see the first showers sometime between 8 and 10 tonight, with stronger showers and storms hours later.
"We're thinking it's mostly going to be an overnight type thing. It might be well into midnight before any storms come through," Lynch said.
"Due to the time that it's going through, you don't have the maximum heating as we did a week ago. Therefore we don't expect it to be as severe as last week. However we could get some isolated pockets of stronger storms as the front goes through. It will be mostly brief periods of heavy rain."
