Robinson D. Hogan pleaded guilty today to involuntary manslaughter for fatally punching a man outside a bar in Richmond's Fan District.

Hogan, 25, entered the plea in a brief appearance this morning before Richmond Circuit Judge Walter W. Stout III, who set a presentencing hearing for June 27.

Hogan was charged after confronting Luke Cockey on West Main Street near Rowland Street as bars in the Fan District were closing on the morning of Jan. 24.

According to authorities, words were exchanged between the two before Hogan punched Cockey, who fell back and landed on Main Street. Cockey, 23, of Henrico County, suffering from multiple skull fractures, brain damage and significant blood loss, died the next day at VCU Medical Center.

Authorities said Hogan and Cockey had both been drinking that night but not with each other. There was no indication the two knew each other.
