Richmond Police Chief Rodney Monroe told a North Carolina television station that he hopes he gets the chief's job in Charlotte.

In an interview yesterday with WCNC, Charlotte's NBC affiliate, Monroe said, "Anytime you have the opportunity to expand your career, to look at things differently, to be able to engage a different community, and help bring that community together, help solve some of the problems of that particular community, I think that is a worthwhile challenge that I may hopefully have the opportunity to do."

Last week, a delegation from Charlotte came to Richmond to speak with community leaders about Monroe's tenure as police chief here. He is one of three finalists for the Charlotte job, and all three are scheduled to appear at a community forum in Charlotte next week.

Monroe said earlier this week that he has been told that Charlotte will make a decision within two weeks.
