Here's what you need to know about Virginia's presidential primary.

When will it be held?

Tuesday. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. If you are in line to vote at 7 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.

Where do I go to vote?

Your normal polling place. If you do not know where that is, go to the State Board of Elections' Web site at www.sbe.virginia.gov and click on "Voter Information."

Do I need to register to vote in the primary?

No. You may vote as long as you are a registered voter in Virginia. If uncertain about your status, go to the State Board of Elections' site. All registered voters who will be 18 or older by the Nov. 4 presidential election are eligible.

Do I need to register with a party to vote?

No. You may vote in either the Democratic or Republican primary, but not both. At your polling place, ask for a Democratic ballot or a Republican ballot.

Who will be on the ballots?

The Democratic and Republican ballots will include the names of candidates who withdrew after the ballots were prepared. As a result, each ballot will list six names.

The candidates listed on the Democratic ballots are Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, who remain in the race, and four candidates who have dropped out: John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich, Joseph Biden and Bill Richardson.

The Republican ballots list three active candidates -- John McCain, Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul, and three candidates who have dropped out: Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney.

A vote for one of the noncandidates will still be counted.

What is at stake in Virginia?

There are 85 delegates on the Democratic side, 60 for the Republicans.

The Republican vote is winner-take-all, but the Democratic vote is proportional. A candidate would get 60 percent of the delegates if he or she wins 60 percent of the statewide vote.

What type of identification do I need?

For first-time voters, a valid photo ID or a current utility bill, bank statement, government check or another government document that shows name and address. All other voters must show a voter registration card, or a valid Virginia driver's license, or a military ID, or a Social Security card, or an employer-issued photo ID, or any ID issued by federal, state or local government.

If I don't bring a valid ID to the polls, can I still vote?

Yes. You must sign, under oath, a form affirming your identity. You then cast a provisional ballot, which is counted if the election official confirms your identity.

Will there be voting equipment accessible for the disabled?

Yes. Every polling place will be equipped with at least one accessible voting system.
