A North Carolina woman died Wednesday after being struck by a car the previous evening while crossing Laburnum Avenue in Henrico County.

Virginia State Police identified the victim as Zandia P. Bell, 51, of Wilmington, N.C. She was hit about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday while crossing Laburnum a few blocks south of Interstate 64.

Bell died at VCU Medical Center shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

There have been 36 pedestrian deaths on Virginia roads this year, compared with 32 at the same time last year.
