A Henrico jail inmate who was serving time for assault of a police officer was found dead in his cell this morning.

Henrico Sheriff Michael Wade said that Donald Horton, 52, who had been scheduled for release on June 13, was discovered by his cellmate about 3:15 a.m.

Wade said Horton was in a medical unit of the jail, had been seen by a doctor on Thursday, and had been receiving medication. Wade declined to give specific medical information because of privacy laws.

Henrico Police Department is investigating and Wade said he is awaiting an autopsy by the state medical examiners office.
