Monroe introduced as new top cop in Charlotte, N.C.

Rodney Monroe held his first press conference as the new police chief in Charlotte, N.C., this afternoon. He is leaving his post as Richmond's top cop, a job he has held since 2005.
In Charlotte, Monroe's annual salary will be $185,000 -- up from $165,424 in Richmond. He will oversee a budget of $174 million and 1,560 officers policing a population of 713,000 in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. In Richmond, his department had a $73.6 million budget and 750 officers policing a population of 192,000.
WWBT TV, the CBS affiliate for Charlotte, reported online that Charlotte City Manager Curt Walton touted Monroe's "extraordinary passion for law enforcement and prevention that makes a community a better place to live."
