Police evacuated the Richmond Coliseum and shut down two roads today after finding a suspicious package.

Police were summoned around noon and found a five-gallon container with a blinking red light, said police spokeswoman Karla E. Peters.

A police bomb squad destroyed the container. Peters said she didn't know how the package got there or if it posed any danger.

Police shut down North Seventh and North Ninth streets between East Marshall and East Leigh streets. The situation was over by about 2 p.m.
