Appomattox Regional Governor's School for the Arts and Technology will present the fifth annual One-Act Plays Workshop on June 1 at 2 p.m.

Students in Dr. Ray Fenn's playwriting/directing class wrote the one-act plays during the course. Actors include a cross section of the school's students. The playwrights also serve as directors for the performances, with no author directing his/her own work.

The event features 41 actors portraying more than 80 characters, supported by student designers and theater technicians.

This is believed to be the largest presentation of original one-act plays written by high-school students in Virginia.

Former participants of the one-acts are studying in some of the best professional playwriting and directing development programs in the country, including New York University's famed Tisch School of the Arts, and this year's talent is no less accomplished.

During intermission, a chili dinner will be available that includes chili, cornbread muffins, salad and dessert.

The school is at 512 W. Washington St. in Petersburg.

Tickets for the workshop may be purchased in advance by contacting the ARGS box office at (804) 722-0204 or tickets@args.k12.va.us. They also will be available at the door. Prices for tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. The workshop is not recommended for children younger than 12.

Advance dinner tickets are $5 for adults, $4.50 for students and $4 for ARGS students. These tickets will be $6, $5.50 and $5 on the day of the workshop.
