Chesterfield Kim J. Huntley, Defense Supply Center Richmond's deputy commander, will become director of Defense Energy Support Center at Fort Belvoir on June 30. The Defense Energy Support Center manages energy supplies for the Department of Defense and other government agencies. Huntley has worked in defense logistics since 1976. His previous jobs include deputy commander of the Defense Logistics Agency's Europe operations, chief of the DLA director's staff group, and staff director of DLA's Customer Support Office. He has been deputy director of the Richmond center since August.
Hanover A Petersburg man is being held at the Pamunkey Regional Jail in connection with a recent robbery at a Pizza Hut restaurant on Mechanicsville Turnpike. Javar D. Ruffin, 20, turned himself in to the Petersburg Police Department on Friday evening, Hanover County officials said yesterday.
Caroline A 42-year-old Ruther Glen man is charged with rape, two counts of sodomy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in connection with a sexual assault involving a family member, according to the Caroline County Sheriff's Office. The investigation began after staff members at Caroline High School contacted a sheriff's deputy last week.
Henrico An animal-protection officer shot and killed a pit bull that lunged at the officer on Sunday afternoon in a new housing development on Kingsridge Parkway, Lt. Doug Perry said yesterday. The dog was one of two that had been sought by officers after the dogs were seen running loose last week in the Fairfield Woods area in eastern Henrico. Officers are still looking for the second pit bull. Anyone who sees the dog is asked to call (804) 501-5000.

Danville Averett University will introduce its new president tomorrow at 11 a.m. on the front steps of Main Hall, at 420 W. Main St. The public is invited to attend. The new president will be the school's 24th, replacing Richard A. Pfau, who is retiring.
Chatham Authorities seized about three gallons of what they suspect is moonshine during a weekend raid at a residence on Beechnut Road. Charges are pending upon results of lab analysis, which should take 60 to 90 days, said Jesse Tate, special agent for the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control's enforcement division.
Falls Church The Falls Church City Council is expected to vote this month on a proposal to build a six-story hotel across from a Roman Catholic elementary school. Parents of students at St. James Catholic School are fighting the construction plan, arguing that the hotel would attract crime and sexual predators to the area. The 110-room Hilton Garden Inn would be built on what is now a parking lot in the 700 block of West Broad Street. The hotel debate is part of a larger discussion about the pace of development in the city that could shape today's council election.
Culpeper A hearing for convicted murderer Ricky Javon Gray has been delayed until June 4. Attorneys for Gray, 30, were expecting a judge in Culpeper Circuit Court to rule on their request for information related to the cooperation of a prosecution witness. Gray is charged with killing Sheryl Warner, 37, in December 2005. He already faces a death sentence for killing a Richmond family of four in January 2006.
