Goochland The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet in closed session today to consider acquiring real estate for parks and recreation and for a fire station, and to discuss an economic development prospect. The agenda for the open portion of the meeting includes resolutions to fund design and construction of a school bus garage and additions at two elementary schools. The meeting is set for 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the County Administration Building.

Richmond Police are looking for a man suspected of firing a weapon at a toddler's birthday party, injuring a man. Warrants are on file against Daniel Monterio Harris, 20, of Richmond, on charges of aggravated assault and use of a firearm. Police said that the shooting occurred about 9 p.m. Saturday at a residence in the 2900 block of Hanes Avenue after Harris got into an argument with someone and was asked to leave. After assaulting one of the adult guests, Harris left and returned with a weapon, police said. He then fired multiple shots, striking a man in the shoulder, according to police. Anyone with information about Harris' whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.

Chesterfield The Chesterfield County Police Department plans to hold a community meeting with Hispanic residents to help them keep from becoming victims of crime. The meeting will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church at 4400 Beulah Road on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Call Juan Santacoloma at (804) 796-7085 with questions.

Louisa The county's school system has announced the 2008 William G. Thomas Educator of the Year school winners: Vanessa Pendleton at Jouett Elementary School, Carrie Hicks at Louisa County High School, Wendy Allanson at Louisa County Middle School, George Parker at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School and Dwight Raines at Trevilians Elementary School. They will be honored and the recipient of the Louisa County Public Schools Educator of the Year Award will be announced at a May 1 ceremony at Louisa County High School.

Hanover All Hanover County families with children ages 5 through 19 who are not attending public schools are asked to complete a 2008 Triennial Census Survey. Statistics from the census will be used by the state to determine the distribution of sales tax revenue and other monies to localities. For more information, call (804) 365-4515.

Henrico The County Extension Office will begin its spring lawn care seminar series April 22-24 with a program on how to control weeds. The free seminars are scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. at these locations: April 22, Fairfield Area Library, 1001 N. Virginia Beach A Virginia Beach man is charged with killing his mother and her husband. Police spokesman Jimmy Barnes said Berry Richard Johnson, 49, was arrested Saturday. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his mother, Barbara Lee, 71, and her husband, Robert Lee, 63. The two were found dead in their home Friday.

Essex An Essex County sheriff's deputy is recovering from minor injuries after his vehicle overturned in a single-vehicle crash. Deputy Jay Taylor, 44, was taken to Riverside Tappahannock Hospital after the wreck at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Taylor was responding to a call when his patrol car hit standing water and hydroplaned while heading north on U.S. 17 near the intersection of state Route 601, said Sgt. Tom Cunningham of the Virginia State Police. The deputy lost control of the vehicle, struck an embankment in the median and overturned, he said.
